November 13, 2023, declared a public holiday in Kenya for the public to take part in a national tree-growing exercise. The launch of the exercise is very timely and everyone is urged to embrace tree-planting as a way of living.
The National Assembly in Collaboration with the Kenya Forest Service, Ministry of Environment & Natural Resources, the County Government of Kajiado, and the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints; launched a Nationwide tree planting exercise with the aim of attaining the National Government’s target of achieving and maintaining over 10% tree cover.
This unique Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) exercise is geared towards conserving our environment and a starting point for our future generations to plant and conserve trees. This program’s target is in tandem with the grand government’s mission under Vision 2030, to increase the area under forest cover to 10% by 2030 and to sustainably manage forest resources for environmental protection and enhanced economic growth. The exercise dovetails into Kenya’s plan to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.
Trees are the world’s air conditioning system. They form the lungs of the planet. Now is right time for human beings to be accountable stewards of nature.
Remember, Earth is the only world that we have, and we must protect our environment.
Here are the easiest ways to celebrate this day:
- Plant a tree in urban places
- Read content about trees
- Take a photo of the planting crew and send it to the local newspaper to tell everyone about the significance of the new tree
- Donate trees
- Go forest bathing i.e. sit, walk slowly or breathe in the forest and trees through all your senses
Spend some time among the trees, my favorite has always been Karura forest.
Happy National Tree Planting Day to you all!
